Below is the newsletter we sent out on Oct 1st, 2021, to notify all our subscribed members about a malicious hack. Our IT worked hard to get our website back up. We will keep you posted as we learn more info and keep in mind this will be an ongoing investigation.
Dear Valued Members:
You may have noticed that our website has been down for several hours/days. Our IT department is working diligently to have us up and running again. This incident was of malicious intention.
On or about October 1st, 2021, our website became incapacitated and subsequently, a team member received a ransom email. Our initial investigation narrowed it down to a team member's email account being compromised.
We believe by using the compromised email address, the hacker(s) were able to gain access to emails and other sensitive company information. At this time, we are asking all our customers to be proactive in preventing any or further loss of sensitive information as an extra precaution.
How to be proactive:
1. Be cautious when opening emails coming from chemlogix.ca as they may contain spoof material, such as spoofed email addresses, names, and attachments.
2. Change your personal emails or other passwords IF they resemble your password for the Chemlogix website.
3. Keep an eye on your credit bureau for any suspicious activity. For extra measures of precaution, we advise putting a fraud alert on your credit bureau.
4. Email firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions.
With the growth in technology, crypto, and e-commerce, hacking and other malicious attempts are on the rise - none of us is 100% safe but we are in it together.
Our unique industry especially increases us being a target and we ask that if anyone has any information on this current attack to email us at email@example.com.
We will continuously provide updates as the situation evolves, please check your inbox for only newsletters coming from chemlogix.ca and do not open any links and/or provide any personal information.
